Board Development

A strong Board is the backbone of a strong agency. Boards serve to provide governance oversight, raise funds, and support the executive leadership of the organization. It is important for the Board to include the right mix of people for a particular agency and for those people to be educated about their roles and responsibilities.

MNC provides the following services

MNC focuses on capacity-building services that lead to improved Board performance and engagement.

The process is simple:

  • We begin with objective organizational assessment or evaluation to identify areas within their organizations that have been weakened (or strengthened).
  • We use the Board assessment to develop plans to build back the Board’s ability to support organizational capacity and sustainability.
  • We help develop and transition organizational culture that sustains morale and effectiveness by encouraging board members to reflect on their work and deliver education to be clear about their responsibilities through training.

■Implementing strong human resource management practices, including hiring and retention, ongoing professional development, and establishing clear performance accountability measures for staff;

■Resolving human resource problems and interpersonal conflicts in an inclusive manner;

■Strengthening the board of directors’ capacity to lead the organization, particularly as organizational ambassadors; and Resource Development

■Securing the resources needed to succeed in fundraising.

  • Board Composition
    • Support with membership management to assess if there is the appropriate skill-sets available to accomplish the mission
    • Evaluation of Board recruiting procedures and appropriate composition to serve the needs of the agency
    • Governance & Compliance
      • Reviews regulations to ensure that the organization is in compliance with regulations affecting nonprofit organizations and has sound risk-management practices
      • Creates guidelines to hire, set salary, and evaluate the performance of the Executive Director as well as to oversee succession of that position and other key staff.
      • Assessments, Facilitation & Training
        • Helping the board determine the organization’s mission, sets policy, and assesses and approves programs and services that are appropriate to that mission.
        • Assists the board in developing a culture of a fund development
        • Implementing board self-assessment surveys to determine if the board members are satisfied with their engagement and process of the board.
        • Reviewing strategic plans and assisting the organization in planning strategic planning retreats.
